“I like this article because it highlights the importance of Transcranial Doppler (TCD) during transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). TAVR is often used for high risk patients with severe Aortic valve stenosis. With the use of TCD during the procedure, surgeons are able to monitor the MCA in real time which allows the evaluation of fluctuations in the intracerebral hemodynamics and detection of microemboli as they occur. This allows the doctor to make changes during the procedure to improve blood flow to the brain when necessary. In conclusion, I believe that TCD should be used when possible during TAVR to improve procedure outcomes.”
